As well as a kind, loving and intelligent man, Gerald is also an excellent self-taught artist, whose "Motherly Love" paintings are not only delight but, I believe, demonstrate  his own sadness at the lack of a loving family when he was just a child. I'm happy that he's become a part of my life."

I'm afraid, but you people give me hope... And without it I would die.

I believe there is something great about humanity. Even though we are immersed in several civil wars round the world, poverty and death destroy under-developed countries.  I believe that with great power comes great responsibility.

Our greatest asset to the world is our mind.  We are developed enough to figure out problems that arise today, and will arise tomorrow for our youth, that we couldn't solve years ago.

I believe another great asset of humanity is our ability to show compassion, loyalty and love. Friendship is an asset that sets us apart from other species on earth.

For the last ten years I have been here on Texas a Death Row.  I have witnessed hundreds of prisoners who came to death row with no emotional support, or no support, period.  But, after a while, a prisoner is able to garner both from people round the world who care about him as the person he is and not the person the State says he is.

I believe that you, pen friends of people on Death Row, are what is great about humanity.  Thank you for your compassion and honesty throughout this time on Death Row.
