Hector

Friendship between Chris and prisoner on death row Hector
Hector

I felt from the beginning some attraction in the similarities of his life and mine, with a young family, and some ugly issues that come in life sometimes.

And we have to struggle to survive, not especially for our own benefit but for the better of our families.

Yes, once, too, I had a family -- wife and two beautiful kids.
A few years ago I lost my job --
it was a really bad time --
not least because it was in the public domain and a fair amount of press interest. It went to tribunal and I won.

Although I wouldn't compare my
situation to Hector's in actual terms, I know how it feels to be vilified by the press, to have people tell you
what they think you want to hear,
to feel completely
powerless and dependent
on the help of others --

Writing to Hector is like
writing to myself--if things had
turned out a little differently,
it could be me.
